The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Aishatu Abdullahi, Director of Administration and Supplies at the National Boundary Commission, and Ghaji Rahila, the Assistant Chief Accountant, for alleged forgery and abuse of office. The pair were brought before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, facing a five-count charge related to misconduct in the senior staff promotion process.
According to ICPC’s statement, the defendants conspired to allow Rahila to participate in a senior promotion exercise while still employed at Galaxy Backbone Limited, committing an offence by forging documents to secure her promotion. ICPC further accused Rahila of submitting a falsified letter from Carnegie Mellon University to obtain leave from the National Boundary Commission.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, and their legal representatives applied for bail. Justice Halilu granted bail, requiring the defendants to provide sureties of director-level rank in federal civil service, ensuring their presence at the trial. The court also ordered the defendants to deposit their travel documents with the registrar.
The case has been adjourned to March 17, 2025, for the commencement of hearings. ICPC’s investigation highlights its commitment to combating corruption in Nigeria’s public service.
