The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has firmly dismissed the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) allegation of manipulation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). The electoral body described the claim as unfounded, inaccurate, and misleading. INEC CVR manipulation allegation
Reacting on Monday in Lagos, Mr. Taiwo Gbadegesin, Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, explained that the figures released so far align with the state’s demographic realities. According to him, Lagos remains home to a large, youthful, and tech-savvy population, which naturally reflects in the registration data.
“The Lagos registration figures are consistent with past CVR trends and reflect the state’s demographic realities: a large, youthful and tech-savvy population,” Gbadegesin stated.
He recalled that during the last CVR between 2021 and 2022, Lagos State recorded the highest number of registrations nationwide. The exercise increased the state’s voter register from 6,570,291 to 7,060,195. Therefore, Gbadegesin stressed that the current CVR figures only confirm an already established pattern.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the current numbers also highlight the commission’s effective deployment strategy as well as its sustained voter education campaigns across communities. With these consistent efforts, he said, INEC has continued to improve transparency and uphold credibility in carrying out its constitutional mandate.
Meanwhile, the ADC had recently alleged manipulations in the online pre-registration process in Lagos and other states. However, INEC insisted that such claims were baseless and designed to mislead the public.
Gbadegesin assured Lagos residents that the commission remained committed to free, transparent, and credible electoral processes while urging eligible voters to take advantage of the CVR exercise.
