The APC Media Network insists that Goodluck Jonathan’s rumored 2027 presidency ambition deliberately targets dividing South-South loyalty supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, while strengthening opposition elements determined to reduce his strong political dominance across the entire southern region.
Director-General Iniobong John released a statement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, stressing that Jonathan’s rumored candidacy would weaken Tinubu’s re-election base, while emboldening rival political blocs focused on destabilizing the South-South support crucial for 2027 presidential victory.
PDP Pressure on Jonathan Sparks Political Debate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, and party insiders reportedly listed Jonathan among possible contenders, fueling speculations about his potential comeback despite earlier silence regarding his future ambitions.
John directly urged Jonathan to reject plots designed to lure him into another political battle that could damage his credibility, undermine his respected international image, and permanently destroy the legacy he built as a global peace ambassador.
He reminded Nigerians that Jonathan earned global respect after conceding defeat in 2015, emphasizing that the former president should instead concentrate on preserving national unity, rather than risking another electoral defeat likely orchestrated by political opportunists.
John explained that those pushing Jonathan’s return only want to exploit his influence for selfish gains, knowing clearly that defeating a sitting president enjoying widespread national support, developmental achievements, and structural reforms remains practically impossible.
“The APC Media Network acknowledges persistent rumors about Jonathan contesting against Tinubu, but warns such candidacy would collapse quickly, undermine Jonathan’s global reputation, and expose him to unnecessary political ridicule from opportunistic elements seeking selfish advantages,” he stated.
He praised Jonathan’s reputation as a peacemaker, noting his 2015 concession speech remains a historic milestone admired worldwide, urging him to safeguard that honor by avoiding desperate political ventures designed to damage his credibility forever.
John stressed that Nigerians increasingly appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms, economic programs, and leadership style, noting citizens already recognize his administration’s growing capacity to deliver long-term stability, prosperity, and development across every region of Nigeria.
The APC Media Network concluded that Tinubu’s 2027 re-election chances remain overwhelmingly strong, because his expanding political base and ongoing governance successes guarantee national support, thereby frustrating opposition schemes aimed at destabilizing his presidential campaign.
