The Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for signing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) bill into law. This move is seen as a transformative step for the region, addressing long-standing developmental challenges.
Buba expressed his gratitude to the president for his commitment to the region’s growth, highlighting the commission’s potential to drive economic growth and development. He also commended the governors and National Assembly members from the North Central Zone for their efforts in pushing for the bill’s signing.
The NCDC is expected to tackle critical issues such as security stabilization, agricultural revitalization, industrial growth, and youth empowerment. Buba emphasized the need for equitable distribution of the commission’s benefits across the region.
However, the monarch warned that insecurity remains a major threat to the commission’s success, calling for urgent government intervention. He stressed that the commission’s efforts could be undermined if security concerns are not addressed.
Buba also raised concerns over the growing menace of illegal mining in Plateau State and other parts of the country. He criticized the practice of miners obtaining permits without engaging local communities, describing it as unfair and exploitative.
The monarch appealed to the Minister of Solid Minerals to address the issue, emphasizing the need for due process in mining activities. He highlighted the importance of land for feeding a growing population, stressing that careful management is necessary.
As a long-time advocate for peace and development in Plateau State, Buba emphasized the need for collaboration between the government, traditional leaders, and local communities. He believes that effective strategies can be formulated through this collaboration to tackle insecurity and ensure sustainable development.
