Federal Judge Stops Trump from Revoking Harvard’s Right to admitting International Students

A U.S. federal judge has issued a Harvard Int’l students ruling that blocks President Trump’s controversial immigration directive.
This decision temporarily prevents the Trump administration from revoking Harvard University’s ability to host international students on campus.
The dispute began in April when Harvard refused to eliminate diversity programs, drawing backlash from federal immigration officials.

President Trump responded by removing Harvard from the SEVP program, threatening its capacity to register foreign student enrollees.
The university filed suit, arguing that this move violated academic independence and harmed students studying under valid visas.
In a major legal development, Judge Allison Burroughs granted a preliminary injunction in Friday’s Harvard Int’l students ruling.

This injunction ensures Harvard can continue enrolling international students and researchers, who comprise a significant student population.
According to the court, the administration’s actions lacked reasonable justification and imposed disproportionate harm on academic communities.
During the hearing, Harvard lawyers highlighted the program’s critical role in fostering innovation and global research collaboration.

Judge Burroughs previously issued a restraining order and later heard extended arguments before making her final decision.
Supporters of the Harvard foreign students ruling see it as a defense of academic freedom and immigrant student rights.
The Trump administration’s broader immigration crackdown has increasingly clashed with elite universities and research institutions nationwide.

In retaliation for Harvard’s resistance, Trump officials slashed over $2.6 billion in federal research grants to the school.
That funding cut triggered a separate lawsuit, now being reviewed in a different federal courtroom in Washington, D.C.
Despite White House pushback, Harvard says it will continue defending diversity, openness, and access for global students.

The legal battle isn’t over, but for now, Harvard celebrates a key win in a high-stakes immigration dispute.
