JUST IN: INEC Announces Date for Peace Accord Signing by Edo Guber Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced that the Peace Accord for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Benin City. This event marks a significant step towards ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

The signing ceremony, as in previous years, is organized in collaboration with the National Peace Committee (NPC). This year, the event will be presided over by General Abdulsalami Abubakar GCFR, who is the Chairman of the NPC. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a meeting with leaders of all political parties held in Abuja. This adjustment is intended to give the NPC adequate time to monitor how well the political parties and their candidates adhere to their commitments to a peaceful election.

The signing of the Peace Accord will follow an important INEC Stakeholders meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2024, also in Benin City. This prelude meeting will be addressed by the Inspector-General of Police, alongside Prof. Yakubu.
