The ruling of the Court of Appeal in Abuja that recognised Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) has been overturned by the Supreme Court.
A five-member panel of the highest court ruled unanimously on Friday that the Court of Appeal lacked the authority to declare Abure National Chairman of the LP. The panel had previously determined that the case’s core issue was the party’s leadership.

It stated that Abure’s term had since ended and that the matter of leadership was an internal party matter over which courts had no authority.
The appeal, which was deemed meritorious, was granted by the court to Senator Ester Nenadi Usman and one other.
The Abure group of the LP filed a cross-appeal, which it dismissed as unmeritorious.
