GUSAU, ZAMFARA STATE — Loyalists of a prominent Zamfara State House of Assembly member have threatened to leave the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decision follows the violent Kabiru Mika’ilu Dangulbi attack in Dansadau earlier this week. The lawmaker, representing the Maru South constituency, escaped death after an angry mob assaulted him during an official visit.
Alhaji Sadauki Madugu, a primary supporter of the lawmaker, spoke to journalists in Gusau on Friday. He expressed deep outrage over the Kabiru Mika’ilu Dangulbi attack. Madugu specifically criticized Governor Dauda Lawal for his perceived inaction during the incident. He described the governor’s response as an “I don’t care” attitude that emboldened the attackers.
Inside the Kabiru Mika’ilu Dangulbi Attack in Dansadau
The Kabiru Mika’ilu Dangulbi attack occurred as the lawmaker accompanied Governor Lawal to flag off the Gusau-Dansadau road reconstruction. An enraged mob overpowered security details and physically manhandled the legislator. Witnesses reported that the crowd accused Dangulbi of abandoning his constituents during recent bandit attacks.
“It was disheartening that a parliament member was assaulted in the presence of the governor,” Madugu said. He lamented that authorities allowed the culprits to go free without any immediate consequences. Indeed, security operatives struggled for several minutes to rescue the visibly shaken lawmaker from the irate crowd.
Beyond the attack, loyalists claim a systemic problem exists within the Zamfara PDP. Madugu alleged that the party leadership favors “outsiders” from Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna. Specifically, he argued that this preference leaves indigenous local members marginalized and without a voice in the state’s administration.
- Assault on Dignity: Supporters believe the attack insulted the entire constituency.
- Non-Indigenous Officials: Critics fault the administration for placing key positions in the hands of non-locals.
- Lack of Protection: Loyalists view the governor’s immediate departure after the incident as a failure of leadership.
The Looming Threat of Mass Defection
The fallout from the Kabiru Mika’ilu Dangulbi attack may lead to a significant shift in Zamfara’s political landscape. Madugu warned that hundreds of loyalists are currently exploring other political platforms. They seek a party where their dignity and representation will receive proper respect.
“PDP in Zamfara has proven to be destructive,” Madugu stated. The group remains firm that they will not stay where their leaders face violence without repercussions. Ultimately, this development follows a series of recent defections in Zamfara State, further weakening the PDP’s hold on local constituencies.
