Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has rejected calls by the Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) to contest the 2027 presidential election. The NYLF had urged Kalu to run for president with either Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal or Adamawa State Governor Umar Fintiri as his running mate.
In a statement, Kalu’s media aide, George Maduka, emphasized that the senator has no intention of running for president in 2027. Instead, Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Kalu’s decision was welcomed by his supporters, who praised his loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu. The senator’s statement also cautioned against political distractions, particularly from opposition groups.
The NYLF’s call for Kalu to run for president was seen as a surprise move, given the senator’s previous statements on the matter. However, Kalu’s swift rejection of the call has put the matter to rest.
Kalu’s commitment to Tinubu’s re-election bid is seen as a significant boost to the president’s chances in 2027. The senator’s influence in the South-East region is considerable, and his support is expected to help mobilize voters for Tinubu.
The APC has welcomed Kalu’s decision, praising his loyalty and commitment to the party’s ideals. The party’s leadership has expressed confidence that Tinubu will win re-election in 2027, with Kalu’s support being a significant factor.
Kalu’s statement also emphasized the need for Nigerians to focus on supporting President Tinubu’s economic reforms. The senator believes that Tinubu’s reforms have the potential to transform the country’s economy and improve the lives of citizens.
