In the early hours of Saturday, a military-grade mortar bomb explosion happened in kano, killing about five people, and fifteen others sustained injuries.
The Kano bomb explosion caused panic in the affected area. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, including security personnel and medical teams.
The Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion. He said the blast may have originated from a military ordnance believed to have been improperly handled or transported.
Mr Bakori said, “I received a call that something serious had happened. When I arrived, I found that it was a suspected explosion—possibly a military mortar bomb. Fifteen people were injured, and unfortunately, five died.”
He said the victims were quickly evacuated, with some admitted to nearby hospitals.
“The situation is still under investigation, but we understand the vehicle involved may have come from Yobe State.
“Preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer, but it remains unclear whether the vehicle was carrying military personnel or contractors,” he said.
Security agencies have yet to confirm the exact cause of the explosion or the ownership of the explosives and their intended final destination prior to the incident.
“Security agencies are currently investigating the incident. The facts will be clearer once the investigation is completed,” the Police Commissioner said. He advised people should remain calm as they investigate the situation further.
