The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has granted automatic employment to 54 postgraduate students who recently
returned from India after completing their studies in various health-related courses. The students, who were
sponsored by the Kano State Government, were welcomed back home with a reception and
Iftar (Ramadan breaking of fast) organized by the governor.
During the event, Yusuf announced that the students would be offered automatic employment within the Kano State
Civil Service. He explained that the appointment letters would be issued shortly through the Ministry of Health in
collaboration with the Head of Service.
The governor expressed his concern over the brain drain in the state, where individuals who received government-
sponsored education often left to work elsewhere. He appealed to the returning scholars to use their knowledge and
expertise to improve the lives of the people in Kano.
Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuing the foreign scholarship program initiated by former
Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He disclosed that out of the 1,000 beneficiaries, 418 were sent to India and
Uganda last year, and all had graduated.

by the students were the first of their kind in Kano and Northern Nigeria.
Getso noted that the students’ academic excellence would put the state in a strong position to improve healthcare
services. He added that all the students excelled academically, completing their programs with impressive grades and no carryovers.
The captain of the group, Dr. Yusuf Abdulmalik Abubakar, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Kano State
Government for the opportunity. He said that the experience had been life-changing and that they were deeply thankful.
