Kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N75 million for the release of Reverend Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and their two children, who were abducted along the Ise Akoko-Iboropa road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Bishop of the Akoko Anglican Diocese, Rev. Babajide Bada. The family was traveling from Ipesi to Ikaram-Akoko when they were ambushed by the kidnappers.
Reverend Olowolagba was accompanied by his wife, their 16-year-old daughter Goodness (a student at Adekunle Ajasin University), and a nine-year-old girl living with the family.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded N75 million but later reduced it to N10 million. Despite efforts to raise the amount, the demand was raised to N15 million, delaying their release.
Efforts are underway to rescue the victims. The Amotekun Corps, hunters, and local police are actively combing the area. Ondo Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, assured that they are collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the family’s safe return.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Ẹgbẹ Akọ́mọlédè association has mobilized its members to contribute funds toward the ransom. The Ondo State Police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omilani, stated that no formal report of the incident had been lodged.
