In a strategic move to strengthen security operations across the state, the Kogi State Government has presented 10 operational vehicles to key security agencies in a bid to combat crime. The vehicles were handed over in Lokoja with heads of the Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in attendance.
Chairman of the Kogi State Security Trust Fund, Abdulraheem Ozovehe-Ohiare, emphasized that the state government remains committed to providing ongoing logistical support to security agencies. He expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his swift approval of funds, which has allowed the agency to continue its operations without financial constraints.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and we are deeply thankful to Governor Ododo for his consistent support,” Ohiare stated. “Without the necessary funds, fulfilling our duties becomes impossible. Today’s presentation of 10 operational vehicles is part of our continuous effort to enhance security operations in the state.”
The presentation also marked a significant moment, as it included the Nigerian Army, which had not received any vehicle support for the past 11 months. Ohiare assured that the agency would continue to provide more vehicles, with plans to deliver another batch to the Nigerian Army by early December.
A robust monitoring system has been put in place to ensure proper utilization of the vehicles. According to Ohiare, a dedicated team consisting of the Director of Administration, the Publicity Secretary, and the internal auditor will oversee the distribution and use of the vehicles to prevent any misuse.
In his remarks, Ohiare also sent a stern warning to criminals, asserting that Kogi State would not tolerate unlawful activities. “Criminals should take heed—Kogi is no longer a haven for them,” he declared. “Just as former Governor Yahaya Bello dealt decisively with criminals, Governor Ododo is equally committed to maintaining peace and security in the state.”
The Chairman of the Kogi State House of Assembly Committee on Security, Hon. Major Enefola, lauded the efforts of the Kogi State Security Trust Fund, describing their proactive approach as a necessary response to the state’s security challenges. “The people of Kogi are witnessing tangible improvements in security, and with continued support, we believe insecurity will soon be a thing of the past.”
Major Garuba Mohammed, head of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements. “We will continue our efforts to flush out criminals and restore peace,” he said.
The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Ademu Seidu, also commended the agency for its remarkable achievements and called for additional funding to ensure the sustained fight against crime in the state.
This initiative reflects the Kogi State Government’s determination to foster a secure environment where citizens can live and thrive without fear.
