In a bold move to ensure food sufficiency and fulfill his campaign promise, Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has launched an ambitious wet season farming initiative. This groundbreaking project aims to cultivate over 7,324 hectares of farm land, leveraging modern tractors and cutting-edge technology to boost agricultural production and empower local farmers.

With an investment of over 7 billion naira, this initiative is set to empower nearly 10,000 Kogi farmers in its first phase, providing them with essential inputs and resources to increase their yields and improve their livelihoods. The project’s scope includes the distribution of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as training and support for farmers to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.

Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of hard work, patriotism, and responsible utilization of the provided resources. “This wet season farming initiative is a game-changer for Kogi State’s agricultural sector,” said Governor Ododo. “We are committed to ensuring food security and prosperity for our people, and this project is a significant step towards achieving that goal. I urge all beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity and work tirelessly to ensure its success.”

The designated farm lands will be utilized for cultivating staple crops such as rice, maize, cassava, and more, which will not only provide food for local consumption but also generate income for farmers through sales in local and national markets. A second phase of input distribution is planned to further expand the initiative’s reach and impact, with the goal of making Kogi State a model for agricultural excellence in Nigeria.

The launch event was attended by dignitaries from the state government, agricultural experts, and representatives from the farming communities. It featured a ceremonial tractor procession, a tour of the farm lands, and a symbolic distribution of farm inputs to beneficiaries.
