A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, dies during an alleged sexual encounter.
The incident involved a 22-year-old female student and occurred at a private hotel in Anyigba on Tuesday evening.
Hotel management quickly reported the incident to the police after the lecturer reportedly collapsed during the intimate encounter.
According to police sources, the student, Gloria Samuel, immediately alerted hotel staff after the lecturer collapsed without warning.
Hotel manager Moses Friday called the police and helped rush the lecturer to a hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
Eyewitnesses said the lecturer appeared unwell just before collapsing, raising serious questions about what had transpired earlier.
The Kogi State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident and began investigations.
Aya said police had conducted an autopsy and detained the student, transferring her to the SCID in Lokoja.
He emphasized that the investigation would determine whether the cause of death was natural or otherwise under suspicious conditions.
University sources described Dr. Ibikunle as a respected lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education at the institution.

In response, Prince Abubakar Audu University expressed deep sorrow and acknowledged the public attention the tragic event attracted.
The Registrar, Barr. Yahaya Segun Alilu, issued a statement on Friday confirming the university’s full cooperation with investigators.
The statement warned against public speculation, urging restraint until all facts surrounding Dr. Ibikunle’s death are confirmed.
It added that the university remains committed to justice and accountability while maintaining a focus on protecting student welfare.
The statement also distanced other students from the incident, particularly Miss Bello Yahaya Lubabat, whose name circulated online.
The university firmly denied her involvement, urging the public to avoid unfounded claims that damage innocent reputations.
