Bayern Munich is reportedly close to finalizing a surprising deal to bring in Burnley manager Vincent Kompany as the replacement for Thomas Tuchel. This information has been shared by German and English media on Wednesday. Sources like Bild, Sky, and The Guardian have indicated that the Belgian has tentatively agreed to terms with Bayern.
As a result of this potential move, Bayern is currently working on a compensation package for Burnley, where Kompany still has four years left on his contract. Burnley was recently relegated from the Premier League after just one season in the top English division.
Tuchel parted ways with Bayern back in February after falling behind Bayer Leverkusen in the title race. Kompany is now in line to succeed him. Other candidates like Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick reportedly declined Bayern’s offers, leading to the club’s pursuit of Kompany.
Before managing Burnley, Kompany had German league experience with Hamburg and played for Manchester City. He joined Burnley in 2022 and guided them to Premier League promotion as Championship winners a year later. Unfortunately, Kompany couldn’t maintain Burnley’s top-flight status as they were relegated to 19th place in the League.
