The National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has urged Nigerians to pursue change through democratic means rather than protests.
This was conveyed in a statement he penned and shared with journalists on Saturday in Kano. Kwankwaso stressed that sustainable and impactful change can only be attained through the power of the ballot.
He expressed, “With a profound sense of duty, I offer my reflections on the current state of affairs in Nigeria. We are facing unnecessary hardships due to the missteps of our leaders since 2007.”
“Nevertheless, there is always an opportunity for rectification and steering the country towards economic progress, prosperity, and improved welfare for citizens.”
He implored Nigerian leaders at all levels to tackle the issues affecting Nigerians by ensuring good governance and adherence to the rule of law.
Recognizing the recent calls for demonstrations, Kwankwaso acknowledged the collective discontent and longing for a better Nigeria but cautioned against the potential repercussions of such actions.
He encouraged Nigerians to recognize the potency of their votes as the most efficacious instrument for change.
Kwankwaso advised, “During these challenging times, our nation finds itself at a crucial juncture. Our shared frustration with poor governance has reached a critical point, and the inclination to protest is strong.
“As a senior statesman and patriotic Nigerian, I resonate with your concerns and your yearning for change.
“Nevertheless, I urge you to weigh the implications of national protests and to direct your efforts towards a more effective and harmonious method of transformation through the influence of your ballot.”
He cautioned that while protest is a fundamental democratic right, it often escalates into violence, resulting in loss of life, property damage, and widespread disorder.
“The ramifications of such actions extend beyond the immediate instance, leaving lasting scars on our communities and exacerbating divisions among us.
“I address you not just as an elder and a conscientious citizen, but as someone who profoundly believes in the strength and promise of our remarkable nation.
“Let us prioritize our country and collaborate to construct the Nigeria we all aspire to witness,” Kwankwaso urged.
