Spain’s national team continued their unbeaten streak in all competitions, reaching 18 matches, after a heart-stopping

penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands in the Nations League quarterfinals. The thrilling 3-3 draw was decided

by a 5-4 penalty shootout win for La Roja.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Spain took the lead early on

through Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty, but the Netherlands fought back to level the score through Memphis Depay’s spot-kick.

Oyarzabal scored his second goal of the game midway through the second half, but the Netherlands refused to give

up. Ian Maatsen’s powerful effort guided the ball into the net, sending the match into extra time.

The additional 30 minutes saw both teams create chances, but it was Lamine Yamal who scored a sumptuous goal to

restore Spain’s advantage. However, the Netherlands were not done yet, and Xavi Simons scored another penalty to

send the match to a penalty shootout.

The penalty shootout was a nail-biting affair, with both teams converting their first four penalties. However, it was

Unai Simon’s save from Donyell Malen that gave Pedri the opportunity to clinch the win for Spain. The Barcelona

midfielder made no mistake, sending a lofted effort into the corner to cue wild celebrations among the home fans.

Spain’s victory sets up a semifinal clash with France, who also won their quarterfinal match on penalties. The match

promises to be an exciting encounter between two of Europe’s top teams.

The Netherlands, despite their defeat, can take pride in their performance. They pushed Spain to the limit, and their

determination and fighting spirit were on full display throughout the match.
