Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court has struck out the N60bn fraud case against Ahmed Kuru.
The matter ended after the Federal Government, through the Director of Public Prosecutions, filed an official notice of discontinuance.
The notice, dated July 24, 2025, was filed by M.B. Abubakar, ending all ongoing proceedings against the defendant.
Kuru, a former AMCON managing director, had earlier pleaded not guilty to six amended counts filed by the EFCC.
Kuru was arraigned alongside Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited, which pleaded guilty under a plea bargain and was promptly convicted.
Following the conviction, Justice Oshodi ordered the forfeiture of 6.3 billion Keystone Bank shares, valued at N1 each.
The EFCC alleged Sigma Golf fraudulently converted N20bn belonging to AMCON, channelled through Heritage Bank for acquiring Keystone Bank.
It further accused Kuru and ex-Heritage Bank MD Ifie Sekibo of converting another N20bn to conceal its source.
According to the EFCC, the offences violated Section 332(1) of Lagos State Criminal Law and carried punishments under Section 332(3).
Although trial was scheduled, no proceedings commenced before the prosecution officially moved to withdraw the matter from court.
During Monday’s hearing, prosecution counsel V.J. Alma urged the court to discharge Kuru following the charges’ official withdrawal.
Defence counsel Olasupo Shasore supported the application and requested the release of Kuru’s sureties alongside the bond discharge.
Justice Oshodi affirmed prosecution’s constitutional right to withdraw charges anytime, citing relevant criminal jurisprudence and statutory provisions.
He ordered Kuru’s discharge, release of sureties, lifting of travel restrictions, and immediate return of his seized passport.
