The Lagos State Government has urged women to prioritize their health and well-being to ensure success in various aspects of their lives. This call to action was made during the “2024 Women Assembly for Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs)” held at the LTV Blue Roof, Alausa.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, highlighted the importance of improving women’s living standards through health awareness and socio-economic empowerment programs. She emphasized the need for unity in advocating for women’s rights and providing resources that would empower all women, including artisans, widows, and those with disabilities.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu also encouraged women to focus on their mental health, attend regular medical check-ups, and actively guard against drug abuse within their communities, particularly for their children and other youths.
Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Bolaji Dada, reiterated that women’s health is essential for their personal growth and societal contributions.
“A healthy woman is better positioned to pursue her dreams, care for her family, and make meaningful societal contributions,” Mrs. Dada stated. She stressed the importance of disease prevention, early detection, and adopting long-term healthy habits.
To support this initiative, WAPA incorporated free medical screenings during the assembly. These included checks for blood pressure, sugar levels, eye tests, and cervical and breast cancer screenings, ensuring participants could evaluate their health status.
