The Lagos State Transport Authority (LASTMA) has warned dealers not to display vehicles in unauthorized places in the state.
The Executive Director of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare Oki, issued the warning during a visit to Lagos by members of the Lagos Automobile Dealers Association in Lagos on Wednesday.
According to Bakare-Oki, displaying vehicles for sale in prohibited places such as roadsides and footpaths is an impediment to the free movement of traffic.

Bakare-Oki stressed the importance of maintaining order and ensuring a smooth flow of traffic.
He said LASTMA had received numerous complaints from community development associations about the illegal activities of some auto dealers. He said displaying vehicles on roadsides, setbacks, streets, and sidewalks poses serious risks to public safety, impedes pedestrian movement, and causes traffic congestion.

“Lagos state government is dedicated to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for all residents and road users.
“We will not hesitate to enforce the law against any auto dealer found violating these regulations,” he said.
He called on car dealers to strictly adhere to the vehicle display guidelines to avoid sanctions.
He said sanctions could include fines and confiscation of vehicles. Responding, the President of the Lagos Automobile Dealers Association, Mr. Leke Aladegbemi, said the association is ready to work with LASTMA and other authorities to ensure compliance.
Aladegbemi said auto dealers must operate in compliance with the law and promised to educate members of the association on the importance of compliance.
Other members of the association present during the visit were Secretary Olaniran Adelana and Deputy Secretary Obodo Monday.
