Lagos Taskforce Cracks Down on Illegal Street Traders and Danfo Buses in Ikotun

In a bold move to tackle traffic congestion and enforce compliance with Lagos State traffic and environmental laws, the Lagos State Taskforce conducted a major enforcement operation at Ikotun Bus Stop. The operation, led by CSP Adetayo Akerele, targeted street traders and commercial buses responsible for the area’s notorious gridlock.
The crackdown also extended to Ikotun Roundabout on Ijegun Road, addressing illegal street trading, walkway encroachments, and illegal parking obstructing traffic flow. Residents had long complained about the traffic congestion caused by these activities, and the task force’s operation was a welcome relief.

Mrs. Zainab Ajokeade, a resident, praised the effort, saying, “This is a new lease of life for us. The constant gridlock caused by street traders and illegally parked vehicles is finally gone.” The operation was triggered by feedback from the agency’s “See Something, Say Something” platform, which allowed residents to report illegal activities.
The task force cleared BRT corridors and pedestrian walkways that had become bottlenecks due to unauthorized activities. This move is expected to improve travel time and public order in the area. CSP Akerele assured that the enforcement operation would be sustained and expanded to other parts of Lagos State.

“All the arrested street traders will be charged to court accordingly,” he said. The agency also urged traders and commercial motorists to adhere to Lagos State laws to avoid future disruptions. The operation marks a significant step towards ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for all road users in the state.
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, reiterated the agency’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our roads are safe and free from obstruction,” he said.

Residents welcomed the task force’s actions, calling for continuous enforcement to keep the area orderly and free of impediments. The operation is a testament to the Lagos State government’s commitment to tackling traffic congestion and ensuring public safety.
The Lagos State Taskforce’s efforts to restore order and ensure compliance with traffic regulations are commendable. As the agency continues to expand its enforcement operations to other parts of the state, residents can expect improved travel times and a safer transportation system.

The success of the operation is a result of the collaboration between the Lagos State Taskforce, the Lagos State Government, and the residents of Ikotun. It demonstrates the effectiveness of a multi-stakeholder approach to addressing traffic congestion and ensuring public safety. As the Lagos State Taskforce continues to work towards maintaining order and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, residents are urged to cooperate with the agency and report any instances of illegal activities.
