Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan has reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing rumors of his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as “entirely false, baseless, and without any merit”.

Lawan’s statement, released by his Media Adviser Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, emphasized his allegiance to the APC and denounced the rumors as deliberate attempts to mislead the public.

Lawan’s political journey, spanning 25 years as a member of the National Assembly, has been marked by consistency and party loyalty. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 1999 and transitioned to the Senate in 2007 on the platform of the All People’s Party, which later merged with other parties to form the APC in 2013.

Lawan also reiterated his support for Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and President Bola Tinubu, affirming his belief in their leadership and dedication to Nigeria’s transformation.

Lawan called on his supporters to remain steadfast, assuring them that his loyalty to the APC remains resolute as he continues to contribute to the party’s vision for a stronger and more progressive Nigeria. His statement urged the public to disregard the defection rumors, attributing them to mischief-makers seeking to create unnecessary distractions.

The rumors of Lawan’s defection had been circulating on social media, with some posters suggesting that he was planning to join the SDP. However, Lawan’s statement has put the rumors to rest, reaffirming his commitment to the APC and its leadership.

Lawan’s loyalty to the APC is not surprising, given his long history with the party. He has been a key player in the party’s evolution, and his commitment to its vision has been unwavering.

The APC has welcomed Lawan’s statement, with party officials praising his loyalty and dedication to the party. The party has also urged its members to remain focused on its vision for a stronger and more progressive Nigeria.
