Leicester City have decided to recall Republic of Ireland striker Tom Cannon from his loan spell at Stoke City in an attempt to address their lack of goals this season. The Foxes, currently battling relegation, are under financial constraints due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), making cost-effective solutions essential.
Cannon impressed during his stint at Stoke City, scoring 11 goals in 25 appearances, including a standout performance with four goals in a 6-1 victory over Portsmouth. Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, speaking at a press conference, highlighted Cannon as a key option for the team: “He’s definitely one on the list for us. We’re closely assessing his situation and what would be best for both him and the club.”
Stoke City issued a statement thanking Cannon for his contributions and wishing him well for the future. Leicester also praised the striker’s achievements at Stoke, acknowledging his significant impact during the loan spell.
Cannon’s recall comes as Leicester face potential penalties related to financial regulations, further emphasizing the need for internal solutions rather than expensive transfers.
