The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has officially started preparations for the local government election scheduled for September 28, 2024. As part of the preparation, the commission has begun the recruitment process for temporary staff to assist with various tasks during the election.

In a press statement issued by Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe, the Chief Electoral Officer of ANSIEC, the commission announced its call for applications from eligible citizens of Anambra State who are interested in serving as ad-hoc staff for the upcoming election. The roles available include Local Government Returning Officers, Ward Collation Officers, Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Poll Clerks, and Poll Orderlies.

The statement provided detailed information on who is eligible to apply. It specified that candidates can be current or retired public officers from federal or state governments, as well as academic and non-academic staff from higher educational institutions.

Applicants should hold a Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), National Diploma (OND), or at least a Secondary School Certificate. This inclusive approach aims to attract a diverse pool of candidates with varied qualifications and experience.

To apply, interested individuals must submit their applications along with several required documents. These include two recent passport-sized photographs, a bio-data form, and references. The bio-data form should include essential information such as the applicant’s name, age, gender, residential address, current or previous employment details, and contact information.

One of the references must come from the applicant’s current place of employment, and a letter of introduction from the Traditional Ruler or President General of their community is also necessary.

Applications for the positions of Local Government Returning Officers, Ward Collation Officers, Supervisory Presiding Officers, and Presiding Officers should be sent to the ANSIEC headquarters located in Awka. On the other hand, applications for Poll Clerks and Poll Orderlies need to be submitted to the ANSIEC offices in each of the 21 Local Government Areas across Anambra State.

This distribution ensures that the recruitment process is streamlined and accessible to potential candidates from various regions within the state.
The deadline for submitting applications is August 25, 2024. The timely submission of applications is crucial for the efficient planning and organization of the election process. ANSIEC encourages all eligible candidates to apply as soon as possible to ensure that the recruitment process is completed well before the election date.

The recruitment of ad-hoc staff is a vital step in ensuring the smooth conduct of the local government elections. The temporary staff will play a key role in overseeing the electoral process, managing polling stations, and ensuring that the elections are conducted fairly and efficiently. The commission’s preparation efforts reflect its commitment to conducting a transparent and successful election.
