The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has urged its members who have expressed dissatisfaction with the recently concluded local government primary elections to submit their complaints for resolution. This call is aimed at ensuring that any issues are addressed fairly and transparently, maintaining the integrity of the party’s processes.
Sunday Bisi, the Osun PDP Chairman, made this appeal in a statement on Saturday. His statement followed reports that several aspirants who participated in the primaries had raised concerns about the election process. Bisi assured these members that their complaints would be thoroughly reviewed and addressed.
Bisi stressed the importance of using internal party mechanisms to resolve grievances. He encouraged members to bring their issues directly to the party’s leadership rather than seeking external interventions. This approach underscores the PDP’s commitment to addressing concerns within its own structures and ensuring a fair process for all candidates.
“The party leadership is firmly opposed to any form of injustice,” Bisi stated. “We had established a timetable for the primary elections that includes clear provisions for appeals, even after a winner has been declared. This is to ensure that all grievances can be formally addressed and resolved.”
He acknowledged that the PDP’s prominent position in Osun State naturally leads to high levels of interest and competition among candidates. This heightened attention, coupled with the party’s strong performance under its current Governor, has resulted in increased scrutiny and controversy surrounding the primary election process.
Bisi further stated, “We are fully aware of the complaints emerging from various local governments. Our aim is to resolve these issues amicably and to ensure that the party remains united and strong. The state leadership is open to discussions and is committed to finding fair solutions.” He emphasized that resolving these issues is crucial for the party’s cohesion and effectiveness in the upcoming elections.
Some aspirants have alleged that the party hierarchy imposed certain decisions during the selection process for chairmanship and councilor positions. These claims highlight the need for transparent and equitable procedures within the party. The PDP leadership remains dedicated to addressing these concerns to prevent any potential discord among its members.
The primary elections are a critical part of the PDP’s preparations for the local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025. Ensuring a transparent and fair selection process is essential for the party’s success and its ability to effectively represent its constituents.
The Osun PDP leadership is actively working to address any complaints from the primary elections. By encouraging internal resolution mechanisms and remaining committed to fairness, the party aims to strengthen its position and resolve any disputes within its ranks, ensuring a unified front as it approaches the upcoming elections.
