Liverpool has turned down a £70 million ($85 million) offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for striker Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan forward, signed from Benfica in 2022 for £65 million, has struggled for form this season, scoring just twice in 755 Premier League minutes.
Despite his declining output, the Reds reportedly value Nunez at £85 million and remain open to a potential sale by the end of the January transfer window. Nunez’s strong performances under Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus during their Benfica days have fueled speculation about a reunion, but Liverpool is holding out for a higher bid.
At the same time, sporting director Richard Hughes is exploring reinforcements for the squad. One target is 20-year-old Stefanos Tzimas, a promising striker from German second-division side Nürnberg, as Liverpool seeks to future-proof its attacking options.
This activity comes as Liverpool balances player contracts and its pursuit of multiple trophies this season. Fans have called for the club to prioritize new deals for key players Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but Hughes is focused on ensuring depth in the squad.
