Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to making decisions that will benefit the public, civil servants, and the overall growth of Oyo State. During the 2024 Public Service Week and Productivity/Merit Award Day at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Makinde emphasized the importance of continuing to build sustainable institutions that will ensure progress long after his tenure. He congratulated the awardees for their exceptional service to the state and urged them to strive for even greater accomplishments.
The governor highlighted the role of the civil service in transforming his administration’s vision into reality. He praised the commitment and hard work of public servants, underscoring that his government is dedicated to fostering excellence. As part of the event, Makinde presented a retirement gift to the former Coordinating Director of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Adedigba Aderogba, promoting him to permanent secretary in recognition of his years of service.
Governor Makinde took the opportunity to reiterate his administration’s worker-friendly policies, which include consistent salary payments, a monthly economic relief package for civil servants and retirees, and approval for a minimum wage increase. He also spoke about the recruitment of 25,000 unemployed graduates, the regular payment of pensions, and an increase in the funding for pension and gratuity programs. These measures, he said, are intended to improve the welfare of workers and ensure a more productive civil service.
In her welcome address, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, commended Governor Makinde for his steadfast support of public service initiatives. She praised his commitment to workers’ welfare, emphasizing his role in securing the economic relief package and approving the minimum wage increase. Mrs. Oni also encouraged civil servants to maintain integrity, transparency, and accountability in their work to ensure the continued progress of the state.
The event also saw the recognition of outstanding civil servants, with 55 individuals across different levels and ministries receiving awards for their exemplary service. The Office of the Head of Service was recognized as the Most Outstanding Ministry, while the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) was named the Most Outstanding Agency of the Year. Key political figures, including the Deputy Governor, former deputy governors, and the Chief Judge, were in attendance to celebrate the achievements of the state’s civil service.
