Manchester City has entered the competition for Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, following reports indicating that the Nigerian player has prioritized a transfer to another club this summer. The future of the former Everton player took a significant turn after Paris Saint-Germain, the renowned French club, inquired about his availability on Sunday.
Atalanta’s manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, had relied on the 26-year-old to maintain his impressive performance this season. However, his expectations have been severely impacted after Lookman, according to Football Italia, requested not to be included in the squad for their Serie A opening match against Lecce on Monday.
This decision has prompted Liverpool and Arsenal to make urgent attempts to secure the forward’s services. Additionally, it has been reported that Manchester City is among the clubs interested in acquiring the talented Forward before the transfer window closes.
Lookman transferred from Everton to RB Leipzig for £23 million in 2019. Recent reports suggest that he may be on the verge of returning to England, with Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City all competing for his signature.
“Liverpool is now contemplating a bold move to sign Ademola Lookman, who could enhance Slot’s attacking options.” the report states.
All three clubs—Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City—have been made aware of Lookman’s situation in Italy this summer. Atalanta may entertain the idea of selling one of their key players if a suitable offer is presented, with the club seeking approximately €60 million for Lookman this summer, a player they would be hesitant to part with, especially in the same month as Teun Koopmeiners, another individual linked to Liverpool.
Since his arrival at Atalanta, Lookman has demonstrated remarkable form, netting a total of 32 goals and providing 18 assists in 79 competitive matches.
