The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called for intensified efforts to tackle the growing kidnapping and security challenges in the country.
MAN General Manager, Segun Ajayi Kadir made the appeal on Tuesday in Lagos. The call came following the release of kidnapped Juani Group CEO, Mohammed Juani and four others by their abductors. Mohammed Juani was kidnapped on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Falomo area of Lagos along with four others.
Ajayi Kadir said the call was pertinent as these security challenges pose a grave threat to the business community and economic development of Nigeria as a whole. He commended the security agencies for the safe release of Mr. Juani, saying their efforts were worthwhile and fruitful without any casualties to the victims.
He said, “However, the association is concerned about the security situation as the abduction of the Managing Director of Juani has sent shock waves throughout the industry and has caused concern for the safety of CEOs and employees.
If this uncertainty is allowed to continue, it will undermine investor confidence in the economy and further jeopardize the efforts of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to position the economy for growth.
“MAN also expresses its solidarity and heartfelt congratulations to the family and colleagues of the Managing Director for their release.
The association remains concerned about the safety and health of its members and will continue to work with the authorities to resolve the security issues facing operators in the manufacturing sector in particular and the country as a whole,” he said.
He is a representative of the Nigerian manufacturing industry and represents the common interests of manufacturers in the country. The association promotes the growth and development of manufacturing, advocates for policies that support industrialization, and provides its members with a platform for networking and collaboration.
