Marseille sporting director Medhi Benatia has admitted that the club is interested in signing Pogba, but they were hesitant to bring him in during the January transfer window due to his fitness concerns. “We thought about it,” Benatia said. “We wanted to do it. The problem is, if we brought in Paul Pogba, who isn’t yet fit, does it make sense to shake up our squad for a player who won’t be able to participate in the end of the season?”
Despite the initial hesitation, Marseille are still keen on signing Pogba, and the prospect of him joining forces with former Manchester United teammate Mason Greenwood is still alive. Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United, and the two players have a history of playing together, having shared the pitch 71 times during their overlapping time at Old Trafford.
Pogba’s ban from football was initially four years, but it was reduced, allowing him to return to the sport in March. The 31-year-old has been working on his fitness and is eager to get back to playing at the top level. While Manchester United have been linked with a potential reunion with Pogba, it appears that Marseille are the more likely destination for the French midfielder.
Marseille has been active in the transfer market, signing high-profile players like Adrien Rabiot, Elye Wahi, Neal Maupay, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Ismeal Bennacer. The addition of Pogba would be a significant coup for the club, and they are willing to wait until the summer to bring him in.
