The Nigerian military has confirmed that new terrorist organization has emerged in the north-west region of the country as it declared nine terrorists wanted for their roles in the security challenges bedevilling the nation.
The formation of a new terrorist organization called “Lukarawas” in the Northwestern states of Sokoto and Kebbi has been verified by the Defence Headquarters.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday that although the new terrorist organisation is making the North-West region more insecure, the Nigerian Armed Forces are already confining them.
The Lukawaras have ties to terrorists in the Sahel, especially those from Mali and the Niger Republic. They came into the region from the Niger and Mali axis and started invading northern Nigeria, primarily Sokoto and Kebbi states, according to General Buba.
He further stated that following the coup that resulted in the dissolution of Nigerien democratic dispensation, the new terror organization formed from Mali and the Republic of Niger.
Nine terrorists were also listed by the military as wanted persons for their involvement in the country’s insecurity issues.
