The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recently announced that the Ministry is implementing significant innovations aimed at enhancing services for Nigerians and investors while ensuring that national security remains a top priority. This statement was made during a meeting with a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), led by President Davidson Alaribe.

Tunji-Ojo explained that while there have been improvements in passport services, there is still room for further enhancement. He revealed that a new contactless passport solution will soon be introduced, allowing Nigerians to renew their passports without the need to visit a passport office. This initiative is designed to streamline the process and reduce the burden on citizens, making it more convenient to obtain essential travel documents.

The Minister emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to modernizing various services, including those related to immigration and civil defense. He expressed a desire to collaborate with ICAN to optimize the workforce within the Ministry and its various agencies. By leveraging the expertise of ICAN, the Ministry aims to improve service delivery and operational efficiency, ultimately benefiting the public.

During the meeting, President Alaribe praised the Minister for his efforts to modernize Nigeria’s passport offices. He highlighted the ease with which citizens can now renew and obtain their passports, crediting the Minister’s leadership for these advancements. Alaribe noted that the commitment to reforming immigration services and enhancing public safety measures has significantly improved border control and overall national security.

Alaribe further commended the Minister’s focus on digitization, particularly in the areas of e-passport services and visa reforms. These advancements have not only streamlined business operations but also strengthened Nigeria’s international relationships. The ability to efficiently manage passport and visa applications is vital for attracting foreign investment and fostering trade partnerships.

The Minister also discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing other areas of public service, including efforts to enhance the security environment for businesses and individuals alike. By implementing cutting-edge technology and processes, the Ministry seeks to create a safer, more efficient environment that encourages investment and economic growth.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and ICAN represents a significant step towards modernizing Nigeria’s public service sector. As innovations continue to roll out, the government is optimistic about making Nigeria a more attractive destination for both local and international investors.

By prioritizing efficiency and security, the Ministry aims to build a foundation that supports sustainable development and progress in the country.
With these ongoing reforms, Nigerians can expect a more streamlined and user-friendly experience when dealing with passport and immigration services, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing public service delivery.
