Jose Mourinho has publicly recommended that Nico Williams reject Premier League offers in favour of a move to Real Madrid. The 22-year-old winger, who shone during Euro 2024 with Spain, scoring in the final and being named Player of the Match in the win over England, has caught the attention of top European clubs, including those from the Premier League.
Following his impressive performances in the summer, Williams was linked with a move to Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, while Barcelona also expressed interest. However, the young talent opted to remain at Athletic Bilbao, where his season has been quieter, scoring only once in 15 La Liga appearances so far.
Mourinho, who is a big admirer of Williams, has made it clear he prefers the winger to join Real Madrid rather than make the move to England. The Portuguese manager praised Williams, saying, “Nico is wonderful,” and highlighted that, while Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is also highly rated, he personally favours Williams. He further expressed his hope that Williams would not end up at a less prestigious club, specifically emphasizing that a Turkish club would be an unlikely destination for the talented player.
This season, reports have continued to link Williams with a move to Manchester United, as well as to Manchester City, with some suggesting that both clubs could compete for his signature next summer. City’s Rodri has openly voiced his desire to play alongside his Spain teammate, even humorously offering to help him adapt to the English weather.
