MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by 50%, from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000. This strategic move aims to address a dip in subscriptions and re-engage users.
According to a statement made on Tuesday, the DStv decoder price reduction is part of the company’s new “We Got You” campaign, which aims to increase subscriber numbers while also reducing economic burdens on households.
“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” said MultiChoice Nigeria CEO, John Ugbe.
“The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”
Ugbe also stated that the platform is redefining itself as a source of daily value across a variety of genres, including drama, movies, children’s programming, and news, encouraging viewers to explore beyond sports content.
The statement also featured a limited-time promotional offer: between June 16 and July 31, 2025, members who pay in full for their current plan will receive a free upgrade to the following package tier.
According to the corporation, the pricing modification and bonus upgrading are part of an effort to address the country’s economic reality.
The move comes after a huge subscriber loss of 1.4 million customers between March 2023 and March 2025, which was attributed to Nigeria’s economic crisis and a series of controversial pricing hikes.
MultiChoice has raised pricing on its DStv and GOtv packages three times in the last year, in April 2023, November 2023, and April 2024, with the most recent increase taking effect on May 1.
