The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for the successful introduction of the e-Gate system, describing it as a significant step toward modernizing Nigeria’s border management and strengthening national security.
In a statement delivered by NANS Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, during the 86th National Senate Sitting at Lagos State University, the students’ body highlighted how the e-Gate technology aligns with global standards. Babatunde emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the Ministry of Interior’s dedication to leveraging innovation for the benefit of Nigerians.
“The e-Gate system, as part of the Integrated Border Management System, not only ensures seamless identity verification of travelers but also enhances transparency, efficiency, and security in immigration processes,” Babatunde said. He acknowledged that the system would particularly benefit students pursuing academic opportunities abroad by reducing delays and fostering cultural and educational exchanges.
NANS also lauded the Ministry’s efforts to tackle long-standing challenges, including clearing over 200,000 passport backlogs. These advancements, the statement noted, reflect a proactive and student-friendly approach aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians and bolstering the nation’s global reputation.
Additionally, the association praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for the Interior Minister, crediting this backing as instrumental in achieving these transformative milestones. Tunji-Ojo’s leadership and Tinubu’s commitment to effective governance were described as pivotal in driving national progress.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with stakeholders to advance policies and programs that benefit Nigerian students and promote national development. The group pledged its full support for initiatives that enhance student experiences and contribute to Nigeria’s growth.
