NANS Calls on Federal Government to Shield Dangote Refinery from Saboteurs

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called upon the federal government to safeguard the Dangote Refinery from subversive elements.
In a statement issued by its Senate president, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, the student association emphasized the necessity of protecting the company from economic saboteurs due to the refinery’s critical role in ensuring energy security, generating employment opportunities, and maintaining financial stability.
This plea comes in light of the efforts by International Oil Companies (IOCs) to undermine the operations of the refinery.

Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Dangote Group, highlighted that the IOCs were intentionally hindering attempts to procure local crude oil by demanding exorbitant premiums or asserting that the crude was unavailable.
Nonetheless, the student body implored the federal government to promptly and decisively intervene in safeguarding the Dangote Refinery. They emphasized the government’s responsibility to ensure that the refinery functions without unwarranted disruptions and continues to play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic progress.

NANS underscored the importance of maintaining a consistent and sufficient supply of crude oil to the refinery, stating that a reliable flow of crude is essential for the optimal performance of the refinery and the stability of Nigeria’s energy sector.

“The Dangote Refinery represents not only a private enterprise but a national asset that holds the potential for a brighter and more prosperous future for all Nigerians. Safeguarding it against acts of sabotage is a matter of national significance and security. We urge the Federal Government to rise to this challenge and protect the refinery from any threats, ensuring that its advantages continue to enhance the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians.
“As a student body, we acknowledge the significant contributions of Aliko Dangote and his refinery project to the Nigerian economy. Numerous individuals, both young and old, have benefited from the opportunities and advancements facilitated by Dangote’s initiatives. The refinery serves as a symbol of hope and progress, and any efforts to disrupt its operations are akin to an assault on the future of our nation.
We call upon the government to hold responsible those who aim to sabotage this vital national asset and to implement measures that fortify the refinery’s activities,” NANS concludes.
