The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has officially exonerated the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of allegations of misappropriating funds in its 2024 budget. Following a thorough review, the committee concluded that the accusations were unfounded, praising the examination body for its prudent financial management.
Senator Sani Musa, the committee chairman, clarified that initial reports had erroneously portrayed JAMB’s expenditures as reckless. During a budget defence session with JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the committee had raised concerns about specific line items, including N1.1 billion reportedly spent on meals and N850 million on fumigation.
However, detailed documents provided by JAMB demonstrated that these expenditures were both legitimate and in alignment with the institution’s operations. The report underscored JAMB’s commitment to transparency and accountability under Prof. Oloyede’s leadership.
“For clarity,” Musa stated, “the comprehensive report provided by JAMB did not suggest any mismanagement or misuse of funds. On the contrary, it highlighted the registrar’s exemplary financial discipline and responsible resource utilisation.”
The committee’s findings have been hailed as a vindication of JAMB’s efforts to maintain high standards of stewardship. Senator Musa further commended the registrar for setting a benchmark for public institutions, encouraging other government bodies to emulate JAMB’s example.
