The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) is mourning the loss of Senior Correctional Assistant Shuaibu David, who
tragically lost his life during a jailbreak at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State.
The incident occurred on Monday when inmates tampered with padlocks, enabling 12 prisoners to escape.
According to the NCoS spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, late David demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication
to duty, trying to prevent the escape and protect the facility’s integrity. His actions have been hailed as a testament to
his commitment to service and national security.
The Acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss, offering
condolences to the deceased officer’s family, colleagues, and loved ones.
The NCoS has confirmed that five inmates have been recaptured, while a manhunt is ongoing to track down the
remaining escaped prisoners. The service is collaborating with other security agencies and local communities to
ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
