It was an exciting moment as staffers and board members of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), including invited guests took a ten kilometre walk as part of their activities to mark their 25th years anniversary celebration.
Port Harcourt Polo Club was the starting point of the walk to Yakubu Gown Stadium, recently, this was basically to prove to the world that Niger Delta region is one of the most peaceful places to be in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said it is was auspicious day for the people of Niger Delta area, and it will go down to memory lane that when NDDC turned 25 years the people of Niger Delta converged in Yakubu Gown Stadium to celebrate peace.
According to him NDDC is not only about construction of roads but as an intervention agency, they also need to intervene to promote the rich cultural heritage of the people of Niger Delta and above all promote anything that will foster peace in the area.
“This walk was to showcase to the world that Niger Delta people are united and peaceful, so people will not just assume negativity about the area.
“Gone are those days when people thought you cannot walk freely in the streets of Niger Delta region but today we brought out all staffers, directors, board members, management staff and all invited guests, also special appearance by the King of Warri Kingdom” he said.
Dr. Ogbuku used the opportunity to thank God for the successful 25th years anniversary celebration and all those who contributed towards the success of the anniversary. He equally thank God for the fair weather.
