To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) organized a symbolic 10-kilometre peace walk in Port Harcourt.
Starting at the Port Harcourt Polo Club and concluding at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, the walk featured staff, board members, and special guests.
Importantly, this event showcased the growing peace and unity across the Niger Delta region, once known for security challenges.
Speaking at the event, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, described the day as memorable and historically significant.
He noted that beyond roads and infrastructure, the commission remains committed to promoting peace, culture, and social harmony.
Moreover, Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that the walk was a message to Nigerians and the world about Niger Delta’s transformation.
“Today, we gathered to prove that peace reigns here. The people now walk freely without fear,” he remarked confidently.
He further explained that the past image of insecurity no longer defines the region, as progress and unity are now visible.
In addition, the peaceful turnout reflects the determination of Niger Delta people to embrace positive change and shared development.
The event featured hundreds of NDDC employees, stakeholders, and a special appearance by the revered King of Warri Kingdom.
Furthermore, guests from across Nigeria joined the walk, reinforcing national support for sustained peace and unity in the area.
Dr. Ogbuku thanked God for good weather and also commended everyone who contributed to the successful anniversary celebration.
He praised the commitment of NDDC staff and partners whose efforts made the 25th anniversary a meaningful and well-attended event.
