The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, have arrested a 37-year-old suspect and recovered 8,000 bottles of Akuskura (a herbal mixture) suspected to contain dangerous drugs and 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.
The NDLEA Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, confirmed the arrest in a statement, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Tuesday.
He said the 37-year-old suspect, Ali Muhammad, was arrested in connection with the exhibit.
“The interception occurred around Gadar Tamburawa, Zaria-Kano Road, during a stop of a trailer conveying goods from Lagos en route to Maiduguri.
“The trailer was fully loaded with tricycles (Keke Napep), and the exhibit was concealed between the Keke Napep units and beneath the trailer, where a wooden cover had been constructed to hide the items. The NDLEA operatives discovered the concealment through their diligence and commitment,” he said.
According to the agency, all exhibits and the suspect are now in the NDLEA custody pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to confirm the nature of the substances and determine the full scope of the operation.
“The commander, Kano State Strategic Command, ACGN AI Ahmad, appreciates the continued support of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), which enables frontline commands to act decisively,” he said.
The NDLEA urged the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious consignments or activities to their nearest office or any other law enforcement agency for prompt action.
