The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has approved a total disbursement of over ₦20 billion to students in public tertiary institutions across the country. This update was disclosed by NELFund on Monday through its official handle, confirming that the distribution was completed as of January 1, 2025. A total of 192,906 students are set to benefit from this latest phase.
According to Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director of NELFund, this recent allocation adds to the ₦110 billion previously disbursed to students across Nigeria. Bayero University, Kano, tops the list of beneficiaries with ₦1.3 billion allocated to 11,683 students, followed by the University of Maiduguri, where ₦1.27 billion will be distributed among 12,198 students.
Other major beneficiaries include the University of Jos, which will receive ₦941 million for 6,988 students, and the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, where 8,978 students will share ₦909 million. The University of Ibadan and Federal University Dutse will distribute ₦746 million and ₦593 million, respectively, to their students.
In contrast, smaller allocations were recorded in institutions with fewer applicants. For example, Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga, will distribute ₦122,000 to four students, while Abia State Polytechnic will allocate ₦106,300 to two students. Federal College of Education, Gidan Madi, is set to disburse ₦330,000 to three students.
