The Alaafin of Oyo-elect, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to commence the mandatory 21-day traditional rites for his ascension to the throne. This development follows his presentation with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday.
Governor Makinde had officially announced Oba Owoade as the new monarch of Oyo town last Friday, succeeding the late Alaafin Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away three years ago. The presentation ceremony, held in the state capital, was attended by members of the Oyomesi (kingmakers), government officials, and prominent dignitaries.
According to a source, the new Alaafin departed for Oyo town shortly after the ceremony, where he was warmly received by residents of the ancient community. The rites, which are essential for his full assumption of the royal duties, will reportedly begin immediately upon his arrival.
“The new Alaafin has proceeded to Oyo town, where he will meet his people and commence the traditional rites required for his coronation as the monarch of his forefathers,” the source disclosed.
Oba Owoade’s ascension marks a significant chapter in the history of the revered Yoruba kingdom, known for its deep cultural heritage and traditional governance system.
