The new Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Works, Bello Goronyo, has implored the management of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to supply regular updates concerning ongoing rehabilitation of roads to the public, National Assembly, and other stakeholders to bridge communication gaps.
The minister made the announcement during a meeting with FERMA’s board and management on Wednesday in Abuja, which was chaired by Chukwuemeka Agbasi, the organisation’s managing director and CEO.
Members of the National Assembly have expressed discontent with the state of Nigeria’s roads and the number of people killed in traffic accidents. They instructed that all federal roads should be placed under a state of emergency.
However, in a statement released on Wednesday by Mohammed Ahmed, the Director of Press Public Relations, the minister asked the agency to make its accomplishments generally known so that the appropriate stakeholders can evaluate them.
In his words, as conveyed through a statement, he said, “The Minister of State has urged the management of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to give regular updates to the National Assembly and other stakeholders in order to bridge communication gaps.”
The meeting, which was the continuation of a prior one held in Kano on Monday, November 4, 2024, is aimed at articulating a work plan with a clear roadmap for FERMA activities nationwide.
The purpose of the meeting was also to address the repercussions from the National Assembly’s invitation, which underlined the necessity of improving communication between the two parties and constantly updating Board Members on the agency’s actions.
He also pointed out places where the 2024 budget had not been implemented and asked the agency to create a template for all FERMA projects that are currently underway so that they can visit all geopolitical zones and access the projects they are working on.
Gonronyo also expressed gratitude to the board and management of FERMA for the visit, and he pledged that similar event would continue to bring about the advantages of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve transport and infrastructure as growth-enabling factors.
