The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is on the verge of introducing electronic visas (e-Visas) to facilitate easier travel to Nigeria, while also reducing corruption and inefficiency.
This development was announced by the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, during the
3rd Nationwide Sensitisation Campaign on ensuring efficient Service Delivery through Zero Tolerance for Corruption.
The e-Visa system is designed to be more efficient and convenient for applicants, eliminating human contact in the
application process and minimizing the risk of corruption. This initiative is part of the NIS’s efforts to increase
digitalization and consolidate innovations for efficient and transparent services.
The NIS has also automated most of its processes, reducing human contacts and the chances of corruption. The
Service has introduced various anti-corruption initiatives, including the Passport Automation Programme, which has
significantly reduced processing time for passports and eliminated opportunities for corruption.
Another critical component of the NIS’s anti-corruption strategy is the Contactless Passport Application Process. This
innovation enables Nigerians to submit their applications online, eliminating physical contact with immigration
officers and shutting out avenues for corruption.

The introduction of e-gates in Nigeria is also a significant step towards enhancing security, streamlining airport
processes, and improving overall travel experiences. These e-gates facilitate efficient and secure passenger
processing, reducing the need for manual intervention and minimizing the risk of corruption.
Furthermore, the NIS has introduced body cameras to enhance transparency and accountability in its operations. The
use of body cameras helps curb brutality, enhance evidence gathering and documentation, and rebuild public trust in the Service.
The NIS is also collaborating with Interpol and national anti-corruption agencies to combat corruption and other
