The Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed three agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Nigeria UK migration agreement
The Nigeria UK migration agreement covers migration partnership, border security, and visa expansion for UK firms.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo signed two agreements on Wednesday and another on Thursday.
He signed the deals on behalf of the Federal Government during official engagements in the UK.
Babatunde Alao confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abuja.
Focus on migration and border security
The agreements target organised immigration crime and strengthen border control systems.
Tunji-Ojo said the deal reflects Nigeria’s commitment to a transparent and structured migration framework.
He explained that the partnership promotes a system that remains safe, orderly, and mutually beneficial.
The agreement also includes plans to expand business visas for UK companies operating in Nigeria.
Tunji-Ojo said visa reforms will support economic growth and attract more foreign investment.
He added that the government will use visa policies as tools for socio-economic development.
The minister noted that Nigeria maintains a strong working relationship with the UK Home Office.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown strong commitment to deepening the partnership.
Tunji-Ojo also stressed that Nigeria will protect its citizens and enforce laws against criminal activities.
UK reaffirms commitment to Nigeria
Shabana Mahmood praised the agreement and described Nigeria as a key partner.
She said the UK values its relationship with Nigeria and appreciates the extensive nature of the deal.
Mahmood added that both countries share a common vision for stronger cooperation.
Tunji-Ojo said Nigeria aims to remove barriers that hinder trade and migration.
He stressed that the country remains open to investment and economic expansion.
The minister added that the government will implement the agreements and deliver measurable results.
