Veteran actor Bimbo Manuel has sparked a conversation about the financial realities of the Nigerian film industry, asserting that no actor in Nigeria can afford a Range Rover purely from acting fees. Manuel criticised the extravagant lifestyles often flaunted by some of his colleagues, calling it a facade.
According to Manuel, the luxury cars and mansions seen on social media do not reflect the actual earnings from acting in Nigeria. He argued that the high cost of maintaining such a lifestyle far exceeds what most actors make from their roles in films.
“The actors you see showcasing Range Rovers and expensive properties in upscale areas like Ikoyi are not funding these purchases through acting alone,” Manuel explained. He pointed out that the pressure to appear wealthy often leads to misleading displays, creating a false impression of the industry’s earning potential.
Manuel shared his own perspective on living modestly, emphasising that he values authenticity over the illusion of wealth. “I prefer to live within my means rather than chase a flashy image that is unsustainable,” he stated.
His remarks have stirred discussions about the economic realities facing Nigerian actors, questioning the true sources of income behind the opulent lifestyles presented online. It also highlights the broader issue of unrealistic expectations set by social media portrayals, contrasting sharply with the actual earnings within Nollywood.
