Nigerians now see me as a man who makes things disappear` Rep member decries public perception

Recall last October, many were outraged when a video of Alex Ikwechegh assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, went viral.

Although the incident was later laid to rest, House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh has alluded to the fact that his squabble with a Bolt driver in Abuja in October 2024 increased his popularity among Nigerians as “the man that makes things disappear.”

Ikwechegh, who spoke on Tuesday, stated that he has moved on from the experience and has developed a friendship with the e-hailing driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.

Ikwechegh represents the Aba North & South Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber as part of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He stated, “What happened was tragic, but I see it as an opportunity for me as a person to develop a relationship with the young man. Today, we’re pals. I was hauled to court, but the court found no merit, and the case was dismissed.”

He narrated that the video seen was a low moment, adding that it was a moment that he felt the sanctity of my home was being desecrated.

According to him, the part of the video that was not seen, people did not have a knowledge of what happened before that reaction, asserting that actions preempt reactions.

“But whatever anybody has seen is not indicative of who I am. I’ve been in the public space for a very long time, and there has never been any scandal about me. However, the young man is my friend now, and I am very close to his bishop, his pastor, and I’ve made a bunch of new friends, and today the whole of Nigeria now knows me as the man that makes things disappear. We’ve moved on; it’s in the past now,” he added.
