The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has dissolved the leadership of its Edo State Council, citing “unethical conduct, anti-union activities, and gross breaches” of its constitution.
The decision, which took effect on Monday, August 11, 2025, was communicated in a letter addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment by NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah.
“This action became imperative due to unethical behaviour, anti-union activities, and flagrant violations of the Constitution and rules of Congress by the now-dissolved leadership of the State Council,” the letter read in part.
The NLC national leadership has constituted a five-member caretaker committee to oversee the council’s affairs in Edo until fresh elections are held.
The committee comprises Lewis Monday Igbafen (ASUU), Ochei Onyebuchi Mike (NUTGTWN), Orein Charles Uwanle (JUSUN), Nwaneli Thankgod (MWUN), and Augustine Ekanem (NUCFRLANMPE).
Upah confirmed that the interim body had been empowered to manage the council’s operations and facilitate the process leading to the election of substantive officers.
