Nnamdi Kanu Wins Case in Kenya, Gets N120m for Illegal Abduction

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has recorded a significant legal victory in Kenya.
A High Court in Nairobi ruled that the Nnamdi Kanu win case proves his 2021 extradition to Nigeria was illegal and unconstitutional.

Justice E.C. Mwita declared that both the Kenyan and Nigerian governments violated Kanu’s fundamental rights under their respective constitutions.
The court awarded Kanu ten million Kenyan shillings, about N120 million, in damages for the unlawful abduction and extradition.
This judgment was in response to his secret detention and forced handover to Nigerian authorities in June 2021.

According to the court, the rendition lacked due process, making the entire extradition a breach of international legal standards.
The IPOB welcomed the ruling as a powerful example of justice prevailing despite systemic political interference and human rights abuse.
They stated that the Nnamdi Kanu win case vindicates their long-standing claim that his trial in Nigeria lacks legal credibility.

The group further described the Nigerian government’s handling of Kanu’s detention as a political vendetta and international embarrassment.
Activists and legal experts worldwide have commended the ruling, urging Nigerian authorities to immediately release Kanu from custody.
The IPOB insists that the case proves international laws must be respected, regardless of political disagreements or security concerns.

Supporters say the Nnamdi Kanu win case is a rare triumph against unlawful rendition, setting a strong legal precedent in Africa.
They now call for international courts and human rights bodies to intervene and monitor Kanu’s ongoing legal situation.
Legal observers argue this decision could shift diplomatic discussions and put pressure on Nigeria’s justice system.
